Parenthood

Psalm 127 (Amplified)
A Song of Ascents of Solomon.
1EXCEPT THE Lord builds the house, they labour in vain who build it; except the Lord keeps the city, the watchman wakes but in vain.
2It is vain for you to rise up early, to take rest late, to eat the bread of [anxious] toil–for He gives [blessings] to His beloved in sleep.
3Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.
4As arrows are in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth.
5Happy, blessed, and fortunate is the man whose quiver is filled with them! They will not be put to shame when they speak with their adversaries [in gatherings] at the [city’s] gate.

Again we are reminded that if CHRIST is not the foundation of the Family, it will not stand. If He doesn’t build the house (family), those (everyone in the family) who build it labour in vain. CHRIST should be the solid foundation of any family, starting at the father as head of the home. He is the one that must ensure that his relationship and that of his wife is sound & strong, teaching this principle to their children. We must remember that all children belong to Father (Eph 1:5) and are only given to parents as a gift to oversee, train and equip in the ways of GOD.

Scripture guides fathers to discipline their children, but not to provoke them. Fathers are to love their wives and not to be harsh with them. Wives are to submit to (not be abused by) their husbands as is fitting in the Lord. Children should obey their parents in everything and honour them. Parents must be sensitive to the needs of their children, promote open communication and give them a secure comforting home where they will feel safe, loved, secure and be willing to share their hearts, their concerns and their challenges.
Children grow up to be adults with a free will, and they will choose a way of life based on what seems desirable, true, and satisfying. Passionate Legacy is about parenting, but more than that, it is about leaving a legacy of passion for Christ. It is about doing whatever it will take in your own lives to lead our children in such a way that they choose for themselves a biblical worldview and a life following God.

Concentrate on this Sentence

So many times we receive emails asking to be sent along, or something terrible will happen to you. A family member of mine received this email being at a very low point in her life. She sent it along with the attitude that she has nothing to lose and that it might bless someone else. Later that afternoon a friend phoned her to tell her that the university fees for her eldest daughter, writing Matric this year, has been collected for the next four years on her behalf.

Now your first reaction will be – “O come on! These things do not work!” I have to agree with you it doesn’t. But for three years she and her daughter have claimed money – that doesn’t exist – claimed further studies for the daughter, that seemed impossible and Read the rest of this entry »

REGISTRTATION AT UNISA

What an experience!

As most South African knows we waited and waited for the longest time for the Grade 12 results of 2008 to be published.

30 December 2008 results for Lydenburg High School were available. But as in the rest of South Africa some results were pending. With the results we had for my daughter we set off to Pretoria, a 400km drive. The first morning the papers warned of queues at the University stretching up to a kilometre. We decided online registration is the best option. While in the city we made the most of it and did all the shopping and site seeing that could be fitted into one day.

Shocked I realised the registration process for UNISA has changed. Read the rest of this entry »

Cholera – A devastating disease.

What is cholera?

Cholera is an acute, diarrheal illness caused by infection of the intestine with the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. The infection is often mild or without symptoms, but sometimes it can be severe. Approximately one in 20 infected persons has severe disease characterized by profuse watery diarrhoea, vomiting, and leg cramps. In these persons, rapid loss of body fluids leads to dehydration and shock. Without treatment, death can occur within hours.

Quotes

People always ask, where I get my quotes from. I’m posting a few quotes that I really liked with the links to the different sites. Some of these quotes work wonderful with facebook, as it can be copied and pasted. I also think for those dull classroom walls this might give some inspiration.

If one speaks or acts with a cruel mind, misery follows, as the cart follows the horse… If one speaks or acts with a pure mind, happiness follows, as a shadow follows its source. The Dhammapada

Be not angry that you cannot make others as you wish them to be, since you cannot make yourself as you wish to be.  ~Thomas à Kempis, Imitation of Christ, c.1420

You’ve got a lot of choices.  If getting out of bed in the morning is a chore and you’re not smiling on a regular basis, try another choice.  ~Steven D. Woodhul

Every big problem was at one time a wee disturbance. ~ Unknown Author

If the world were so organized that everything has to be fair, no living creature could survive for a day. The birds would be forbidden to eat worms, and everyone’s self-interest would have to be served. ~ Unknown Author.

Never miss an opportunity to make others happy, even if you have to leave them alone in order to do it.  ~Author Unknown

IN A CHILD’S EYES

sad-teenager As I look at you with brand new eyes, I see you’re hurt

Your attitude hides the pain, I see in your eyes

The movement of your lips as you hold back the tears

I see you fight for yourself and I’m ashamed

You fifteen and should enjoy life

Not take the responsibilities of a grown-up

You had to choose…

How does one choose a parent?

How do you love one more than the other?

The pain in your eyes tells me…

You knew I would understand

You knew you could tell me

You had to choose

How does one choose a parent?

I love you both

All I ask

Both of you, love me?

I had to choose.
